SPECIAL MEETING - March 26, 1981
The Randolph County Board of Commissioners met in Special session
March 26, 1981 with the following members present: Richard K. Pugh,
Chm., Richard Petty, Kenyon Davidson, Thurman Hogan and Bill Boyd.
The purpose of this meeting was the presentation of the Randolph
County Secondary Roads Construction Program by the Department of
Transportation for discussion and consideration. Attending this
meeting from the Department of Transportation were the following:

Bob Nelson
Henry Jordan
Fred Whitesell
John Brown
Motion was made by Richard Petty, seconded by Bill Boyd to approve
the following resolution on bond funds for roads and the motion
was unanimously approved:
WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Transportation allocated bond funds of
$246,388 are available for rural secondary road improvements in Randolph County for the
forthcoming construction season and a public hearing was held on March 26, 1981, in the
Randolph County Courthouse on expenditures of said funds:
WHEREAS, it is proposed to retain approximately 10% ($25,000) of the allocation and
any other additional funds that might become available for road additions, property
owner's participation, volunteer fire department and rescue squad driveways, maintenance
of cemetery drives, overruns, county -wide surveys and right of way acquisition, widening
existing high traffic or hazardous roads, county -wide stabilization, safety improvements,
school bus route improvements, or further continuation down the priority list.
WHEREAS, with the remaining $221,388, it is proposed to:
Utilize approximately $75,000 for safety improvements and spot stabilization -
improvements on School Bus Routes.

Utilize approximately $10,000 to widen substandard paved roads:

Utilize approximately $41,000 to wedge and/or strengthen existing paved roads.
SR 1610, SR 1616 & SR 1618 From 1619 to 1595 2.23 Mi. $41,000
Utilize approximately $38,000 for additions and improving roads which qualify
under the Old Subdivision Road Improvement Program.
Utilize approximately $57,000 for matching property owner participation projects.
BE IT RESOLVED that all of the above proposals be carried out by the Department
of Transportation.
