c080502IIClosed Session II— August 5, 2002, 5:48 p.m. At 5:48 p.m. the Board adjourned to closed session to discuss matters relating to the location of expansion of business in the area, pursuant to NCGS 143-318.11(a)(4). Commissioners Kemp, Frye, Holmes, Mason and Davis were present, as well as County Manager Frank Willis; Cheryl Ivey, Deputy Clerk; Alice Dawson, Clerk; Alan Pugh, County Attorney; David Townsend, III, Public Works Director; and Bonnie Renfro from Randolph County Economic Development Corporation. Bonnie Renfro updated the Board on the following projects: • Food processor for Liberty shell building. A California-based company with strong financials is seeking sole east coast manufacturing and distribution facility to process a pastry product. This is not a big water and sewer user. The company has requestsed information about potential incentives Investment: $10-12 million Jobs: 80 year 1; 300 year 3 • Kalen. A commercial printing operation (relocating from Greensboro) is looking at the Worcester Controls facility, which is closing. They would locate two printing operations and a printing equipment supply in the facility. Investment: $4 million equipment $1.6 million facility and site Jobs: 30 current 20 new • Simplex Industries. A manufacturer of modular homes is considering the Greenfield site in Liberty (north of Times Fiber). There would be 60,000 s.f of new construction on 15 acres. They are seeking incentives or assistance with cost of water/sewer to site for Lot IA in the Liberty Business Park. Estimated cost of infrastructre is $40,000. Investment: $34 million total investment Jobs: 24 salaried; 67 production • Tower Components. A plastic injection molder located in leased facility on US 311 has outgrown its current location and has an 11.8 acre site under option on Hwy 64 west of Ramseur. They would have to be annexed into Ramseur. Investment: $750,000 real property $500,000 new equipment $500,000 existing equipment $1.25 million total Jobs: 26 current; 13 new Requirements: water and sewer extension at a cost estimate of $160,000 • Metalworking company. Company located in High Point is seeking incentives to assist potential owner/investor in purchase of a facility. They are seeking $350,000-$400,000 in local dollars to match Governor's Competitive Fund. Bonnie will try to move forward on this within the next 60 days or company will be liquidated. Investment: $1 million per annum over the next 3 years $1 million in existing equipment Jobs: 41 current; 45-50 over 3 years At 6:00 p.m., on motion of Davis, seconded by Frye, the Board voted unanimously to return to regular session.
