c010410 IV _El Club Mex_Closed Session IV (El Club Mexicano) — January 4, 2010 At 5:38 p.m., the Board, already in closed session on another matter, began closed session on a different matter relating to the location or expansion of business in the area, pursuant to NCGS 143-318.11(a)(4). Commissioners Holmes, Frye, Kemp and Holmes were present. Commissioner Lanier was absent. Also present were County Manager Richard Wells; Will Massie, Finance Officer; Darren Allen, County Attorney; Cheryl Ivey, Clerk to the Board; and Bonnie Renfro and Harry Lane from Randolph County EDC. Ms. Renfro, EDC President, said that a company that has been in operation for 10 years and that is currently leasing a facility on Waketa Drive in Asheboro, is seeking a site to construct a new 55,000 sq. ft. distribution center. The company is a major supplier of snacks to Walmart and Spanish-speaking stores in a multi -state region. She said that the company has purchased a site in Guilford County but is now facing challenges with water and sewer. The company is now considering a site at Providence Park Business Park in north Asheboro. Potential investment is $1.7-2 million in building and equipment, with 30 new jobs within 2'/z-3 years. Construction will be green with tilt -up concrete walls and will include a full range of energy conservation and environmental materials and standards. The company is seeking incentives to offset the initial cost of project. The Board directed Ms. Renfro to pursue this project and report to them at a later date.
