RANDOLPH COUNTY PLANNING BOARD
fir MINUTES
March 31, 1987
There was a meeting of the County Planning Board on Wednesday, March 31,
1987 at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom B, County Courthouse, Asheboro, North Carolina.
The following persons were present:
Don Hancock, Chairman
Doyle Stout, Vice-Chairman
Tal Harrison
Ray Farlow
Charles Adams
1. Doyle Stout made the motion, seconded by Charles Adams to approve the
minutes from the previous meeting. This motion passed.
2. Hal Johnson, Planning Director, gave the Planning Board a brief overview
of the recent community meetings held by the County Commissioners and the
Planning Board in areas of northern and western Randolph County. The
community meetings were held in Randleman, Liberty, Trinity, Farmer, and
Tabernacle, and were related to citizen input relative to county-wide
land use planning & zoning. The majority of citizens attending these
meetings were favorable to zoning and were concerned that uncontrolled
locations of mobile home parks and junk yards would destroy their
communities. As a result of citizen concern, the following changes
to the proposed county zoning ordinance were approved:
A. Added was a provision requiring junkyards to have a minimum of three
acres and be located in an industrial area after obtaining a Special
Use Permit to operate.
B. Increased the minimum lot size for the proposed restricted residential
district zone from 20,000 to 30,000 to reflect the low density rural
character of the district. The minimum size for lots with water and
sewer was set at 12,500.
C. Agreed that mobile home subdivisions (lots individually owned) should
meet the same standards as site built home subdivisions.
D. Approved the idea of notifying adjoining property owners when a
major subdivision proposal is being considered. This would be
considered a subdivision containing the addition of public or
private streets.
3. Being no further business the board adjourned at 2:50 p.m.
