022119 joint with ACSFebruary 21, 2019 Special Joint Meeting with the Asheboro City School Board of Education The Randolph County Board of Commissioners met in a special joint session with the Asheboro City Board of Education at North Asheboro Middle School, 1861 N. Asheboro School Rd., Asheboro. Commissioners Darrell Frye, David Allen, Kenny Kidd, Maxton McDowell, and Hope Haywood were present. Also present were County Manager Hal Johnson, Finance Officer Will Massie, and Clerk to the Board Dana Crisco. Members of the Asheboro City Board of Education and school officials present were Superintendent Dr. Terry Worrell, Phillip Cheek, Gustavo Agudelo, Linda Cranford, Baxter Hammer, Joyce Harrington, Gidget Kidd, Beth Knott, Michael B. Smith, and Gwen Williams and other school officials; Finance Officer Harold Blair, Director of Facilities and Maintenance Ed Keller and Retired Executive Assistant to the Superintendent Patsy Nichols (filling in for Donna Gentry). At 6:00 p.m., School Board Chairman Gidget Kidd welcomed the Commissioners and Chairman Frye called the meeting to order for the County. Dr. Terry Worrell thanked the Boards for their commitment to the students and introduced Mr. Keller. Mr. Keller provided a power point presentation and gave updates on the ten year facilities plan for years four and five. He said that the Phase I renovation of Asheboro High School has begun. Phase II would upgrade original kitchens at both Lindley Park and McCrary Elementary Schools. Phase III would upgrade the rest of Asheboro High School to bring it up to code for the 21St century. Smith-Sinnett Architects gave an overview of renovation work that had begun at Asheboro High School. They also explained the Phase II and III work that will be done in the future. Chairman Frye announced that the Board would be advancing another $2.5 million towards the Asheboro City Schools Capital Projects and it would be approved at the March 11th meeting. He reviewed some of the current legislative goals affecting schools. Commissioner Haywood praised the School Board for using their resources wisely. Chairman Frye thanked everyone for their hospitality. Adjournment At 6:2 7p.m., on motion ofAllen, seconded by Kidd, the Board voted unanimously to adjourn.
