The Randolph County Board of Commissioners met in special session on May
10, 1988 in order to travel by van to Conway, South Carolina, to visit
the Horry County jail under construction. Commissioners Frye, Langley, Comer
and Davidson met in the Courthouse parking lot at 6:15 a.m. and returned at
5:15 p.m. Also traveling with the Commissioners were Frank Willis, County
Manager; Alice Dawson, Clerk to the Board; Robert Mason, Sheriff; Larry
Emerson, Chief Deputy; Dwight Heath, Jail Administrator; and Jim Hawkins,
reporter for the Courier -Tribune.
At the jail construction site the group was given a tour of the facility
and received information on the construction project manager concept.
No action was taken by the Board at any time during this information -
gathering trip.
