032282MINUTES RANDOLPH COUNTY BOARD OF COMM9ISSIONERS MEETING March 22, 1982 A special meeting of the Randolph County Board of Commissioners was held on Monday, March 22, 1982, at 9:00 A.M. in the Convdssioner's Meeting Room at 145 Worth Street, Asheboro, North Carolina. Present were: Chairman, Richard K. Pugh, Thunman Hogan, Kenyon Davidson, Richard Petty and Bill Boyd. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Richard K. Pugh. Bob Crumley presented an updated report on the Randleman Lake Project. He stated that there were two possible projects: (1) Single Purpose Water Supply project which wuuld cost approximately $62,000,000. This project would not require as much acreage (approximately 5,100 acres) and the dam would not be built as high; and (2) Multi -Purpose Water Supply project which would cost approximately $159,000,000 with the local gover_runents providing approximately $62,850,000. This is the only project the Corps of Engineers will become involved with since this project wou.1.61 include flood control. and recreation facilities. The amount of acreage involved in this project is approximately 10,200 acres. After much discussion by representatives from the Archdale area (including Mayor Lloyd Taylor and `iwon Manager Dalton Fulcher), the Randleman area (including R. S. (Sonny) Davis, D. S. Davis, David Farlow, Kent Davis, Thelma Adams, Mrs. W. N. Coltrane, Janet Trexler, Grace Steed, Delbert Spilbran and Jean Swiggett), the rranklinville area (including Mack Whatley), and other in attendance, the Board discussed the possible alternatives. On motion of Richard Petty, seconded by Kenyon Davidson, it was unanimously approved that the Randolph County Board of Commissioners wuuld not sign the proposed letter of intent. On motion of Richard Petty, seconded by Kenyon Davidson, it was unanimously approved that the Randolph County Board of Commissioners would oppose the construction of the Randleman Lake Project-. Other items on the agenda were calendared for the April meeting. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned by Chairman, Richard K. Pugh. NOTICE On Monday, March 22, 1982, the Randolph County Board of County Commissioners will hold a special meeting as defined in North Carolina G. S. 153A -40(b) to con- sider a'proposal relating to the construction of the "Randleman Dam Project." The meeting will be held in the Commissioner's meeting room at 145 worth Street, Asheboro, North Carolina and will begin at 9:00 A.M. This meeting will be open to the public.
