c010509-Personnel-D DavisJanuary 5, 2009 -Closed Session—Personnel At 5:55 p.m., the Randolph County Board of Commissioners adjourned to closed session to consider the qualifications, competence, performance, condition of appointment of a public officer or employee or prospective public officer or employee, pursuant to N.C.G.S. 143-318.11(a)(6). Commissioners Holmes, Frye, Kemp, Lanier and Haywood were present, as well as County Manager Richard Wells, Assistant County Manager/Finance Officer Will Massie, County Attorney Darren Allen, Emergency Services Director Donovan Davis and Clerk to the Board Cheryl Ivey. Board members congratulated Mr. Davis on being selected as the new Emergency Services Director. They asked him if he planned on any major changes in the department. Mr. Davis said that he did not foresee any major changes and added that he would be holding his first meeting with supervisory staff this week. The Commissioners thanked him for the great job he does in providing the weekly update: The Week Ahead, saying that this was a wonderful communication tool for our community. Mr. Davis said that the publication is distributed to about 1,000 people each week. Mr. Davis said that he is working on a Hazardous Materials ordinance and hopes to bring it before the Board soon for their consideration and adoption. Board members decided to formally endorse Mr. Davis's appointment as Emergency Services Director in open session. On motion of Haywood, seconded by Frye, the Board voted unanimously to end closed session and return to regular session. J. Harold Holmes, Chairman Darrell L.
