c020209I-Lions club bldgFebruary 2, 2009—Closed Session ILion's Club Building At 4:55 p.m., the Board adjourned to closed session to establish or instruct the staff or agent concerning the negotiation of the price and terms of a contract concerning the acquisition of real property, pursuant to NCGS 143-318.11(a)(5). Commissioners Holmes, Frye, Kemp, Lanier and Haywood were present. Also present were County Manager Richard Wells; Assistant County Manager/Finance Officer Will Massie; Darren Allen, County Attorney; Aimee Scotton, Associate County Attorney; David Townsend, III, Public Works Director and Cheryl Ivey, Clerk to the Board. Commissioner Frye said that in negotiations with the Archdale Lion's Club regarding the County's purchase of the building located at 213 Balfour Drive in Archdale, the Lion's Club has accepted the following offer: $410,000 purchase price One-quarter to be paid at closing One-quarter to be paid on 8/1/09 One-quarter to be paid on 8/1/10 Final one-quarter to be paid on 8/1/11 2.9% interest rate Commissioner Frye said that the Lion's Club has requested that they be allowed to use the front part of the building for another year, stating that they will remove all their equipment and belongings from the building and store them in a metal building that they will place at the back of the property. They said that they are willing to pay the County $50 for every meeting they hold in the building; they meet twice a month. The Chamber of Commerce also wishes to remain in the building indefinitely. The Chamber currently pays $475/month in rent and is willing to continue paying the County this amount. Alcoholics Anonymous meets weekly and currently pays $50 per meeting for use of the building. Commissioner Frye also stated that events such as wedding receptions and parties have already been booked for the building through the end of the year. He said he told the Lion's Club representatives that the County might be willing to honor only those events scheduled before July 1, 2009. Following discussion, the Commissioners agreed to take action regarding a formal offer to purchase in open session. Closed session on this topic ended at 5:25 p.m. J.
