c020606II_Project Stringer_Closed Session II (Project Stringer) — February 6, 2006 At 6:15 p.m. the Board, already in closed session on another matter, began discussion on a different matter to discuss matters relating to the location or expansion of business in the area, pursuant to NCGS 143-318.11(a)(4). Commissioners Holmes, Kemp, Frye, Lanier, and Davis were present, as well as County Manager Frank Willis; Cheryl Ivey, Deputy Clerk to the Board; Alan Pugh, County Attorney; Aimee Scotton, Associate County Attorney; Richard Wells, County Manager in Transition; Will Massie, Assistant County Manager; and Bonnie Renfro, Executive Director of the Randolph County Economic Development Corporation. Bonnie Renfro told the Board about an unnamed company that is a sporting goods manufacturer purchasing existing businesses in New England. The project is contingent on a successful purchase with transaction scheduled to close within 30 days. The company would relocate existing operations to somewhere in the Southeast and is considering communities in Randolph County, Lancaster and York Counties, South Carolina, and the Atlanta area in Georgia. Their key considerations are cost, proximity to suppliers, and workforce availability. They are considering a 30 -acre site in Archdale on Surrett Drive on which to invest $4 million in real property and $2-3 million in equipment (new and relocated). They project 100-250 new jobs within 2-4 years with a wage range of $10-$15/hour depending on job classification.
